According to data obtained by the energy newspaper using the CNMC simulator, the bill for a typical consumer under the Voluntary Price for Small Consumers (PVPC) is nearly 10% higher than in July.
This increase adds to the rises in June and July (4.3%) and 3.18% in May. Previously, the drop in wholesale prices due to the pandemic had brought monthly reductions of around 6% on average.
Generally, since peaking in the second half of 2018 at €0.2477/kWh, the price has been decreasing in Spain. However, Spain remains among the top 4-6 countries with the highest electricity prices in Europe, competing with Italy and Germany, and behind the top 3 countries with the highest electricity prices: Denmark, Belgium, and Ireland, according to figures from the European Commission and Eurostat.
Nevertheless, when considering the average consumer salary in Europe, given the higher purchasing power of the average Spaniard, Spain would drop to the seventh position for the highest electricity prices, falling behind countries like Romania, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Portugal, Poland, and Belgium, according to Purchasing Power Standard figures.
